As part of the CROSS-SACRAL project, a cross-border conference will be held at Beltinci Castle on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, where distinguished speakers will present the characteristics and significance of sacred heritage within the context of modern tourism trends.

One of the key achievements of the CROSS-SACRAL project is the organization of a cross-border workshop on the significance of sacred heritage in tourism, specifically within the cross-border project area spanning from Szombathely in Hungary to Ormož in Slovenia. The project area is rich in sacred heritage sites and features, many of which are currently overlooked or underutilized for tourism purposes. The region is also home to several important pilgrimage routes, such as the Via Savaria—part of the European “El Camino” network—and others. The aim is to integrate the entire tourism offering related to sacred heritage and, at least in part, to standardize it. Consequently, the conference will feature representatives from the Catholic, Evangelical, and Jewish communities presenting their perspectives on the tourism promotion of sacred heritage; an internationally renowned expert on pilgrimage tourism will highlight modern trends in this increasingly important tourism sector; and a representative from an agency with decades of experience in pilgrimage tourism will share insights and views on the project area’s potential. An afternoon round-table discussion will provide an opportunity for attendees to exchange views with the speakers and guests. Simultaneous interpretation will be provided. The event will conclude with a guided tour of the Church of St. Ladislaus in Beltinci.
