The long-term budget \u2013 known as the Multiannual Financial Framework \u2013 sets out the EU\u2019s spending priorities for several years. It supports millions of people, farmers, researchers, businesses and regions across the EU and beyond. It is <strong>essential for improving our lives<\/strong>, helping us only recently to overcome a pandemic and energy crisis while saving millions of jobs during lockdown.<img class=\"alignright wp-image-12023\" src=\"http:\/\/www.si-hu.eu\/2127\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/14\/2025\/03\/Zajeta-slika-500x379.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"429\" height=\"325\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.si-hu.eu\/2127\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/14\/2025\/03\/Zajeta-slika-200x152.png 200w, http:\/\/www.si-hu.eu\/2127\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/14\/2025\/03\/Zajeta-slika-400x304.png 400w, http:\/\/www.si-hu.eu\/2127\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/14\/2025\/03\/Zajeta-slika-500x379.png 500w, http:\/\/www.si-hu.eu\/2127\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/14\/2025\/03\/Zajeta-slika-600x455.png 600w, http:\/\/www.si-hu.eu\/2127\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/14\/2025\/03\/Zajeta-slika.png 705w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 429px) 100vw, 429px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>EU countries, businesses and citizens need to reconsider the way the EU budget works to make it fit for the future. To continue to support a free, democratic, secure, prosperous and competitive Europe, the long-term budget needs to be <strong>simpler, more impactful, and more targeted<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The new approach for a modern EU budget should include:<\/p>\n<p>\u2013 a plan for each country with key reforms and investments, designed in partnership with national, regional, and local authorities<\/p>\n<p>\u2013 a European Competitiveness Fund that will establish an investment capacity to support strategic sectors and critical technologies<\/p>\n<p>\u2013&nbsp; financing for external action that is more impactful, targeted and aligned with strategic interests<\/p>\n<p>\u2013&nbsp; additional safeguards protecting the rule of law<\/p>\n<p>The Commission is now <strong>inviting all Europeans to have their say<\/strong> on the next budget and the policies it should support, ahead of presenting a formal proposal in July 2025. It has started a series of public consultations that will remain open for the next 12 weeks.<\/p>\n<p>The consultation is open until 6 May.
