On August 18, 2026, the second workshop for primary school students, entitled \u201cThe Tourist Attraction of the Slovene Nationality Collection of the \u00c1goston P\u00e1vel Museum, Its Connection to Educational Institutions and Slovene Nationality Self-Governments,\u201dwas held at the museum.<\/p>\n

The programme was based on the Interreg application submitted by the consortium under the title \u201cGU\u010cIMO: Preservation and Promotion of the Linguistic and Cultural Heritage of the Prekmurje and R\u00e1ba Regions.\u201d<\/p>\n

The children mainly came from the bilingual primary schools of the R\u00e1ba Region (Fels\u0151sz\u00f6ln\u00f6k and Ap\u00e1tistv\u00e1nfalva), but there were also students from Szentgotth\u00e1rd schools who study Slovene, as well as children from settlements in the region where a Slovene nationality self-government operates (e.g. R\u00f6n\u00f6k and Cs\u00f6r\u00f6tnek). The participants represented a wide age range, from first to eighth grade.<\/p>\n

The workshop was led by museum educator Margit Mayer G\u00e1sp\u00e1rn\u00e9 in three languages: Hungarian, standard Slovene and the local Slovene dialect. She was assisted by museum educator Andrea K\u00e1roly and director Mrs. Tibor Horv\u00e1th.<\/p>\n

On this occasion, the children were introduced to the traditional craft of paper flower making, under the guidance of two Slovene women from Ap\u00e1tistv\u00e1nfalva, Mrs. Ferenc Doncsecz and Mrs. J\u00f3zsef Doncsecz. During the activity, they also learned the dialectal names for flowers, their parts and colours.<\/p>\n

Paper flower making is one of the distinctive traditional elements of the Slovene folk craft culture of the R\u00e1ba Region. Local women and tradition bearers make lifelike, colourful flowers from crepe and tissue paper. These flowers are closely connected to important events, weddings and community celebrations in the region, such as the traditional log-pulling ceremony (r\u00f6nkh\u00faz\u00e1s).<\/p>\n

The participants began the day with a morning snack and then spent the morning making paper flowers.<\/p>\n

After lunch and ice cream, the children reflected on the day and shared what they had enjoyed, what they had learned and what they remembered.<\/p>\n
