On Wednesday, 28 January 2026, the first working – kick-off meeting of the cross-border project GUČIMO took place at the premises of the Development Institute of Puconci in Bodonci.

The GUČIMO project focuses on the preservation and modern presentation of the dialectal and cultural heritage of Prekmurje and Porabje, while also promoting the development of new cultural-tourism content in the cross-border area.

The project is implemented by the Municipality of Puconci, the Union of Slovenes in Hungary, and the Ferenc Móra City Library and Museum as cross-border partners.

During the introductory meeting, the partners presented the project objectives, the content of individual work packages, the implementation timeline, and the financial plan. Special emphasis was placed on aligning the partners regarding work organisation, communication, project visibility, and the first activities in the initial phase of implementation.

Throughout its duration, the GUČIMO project will deliver several important results, including:

  • digitalisation of dialectal texts and audio recordings,
  • publication of an audiobook in the Porabje dialect,
  • organisation of professional symposia,
  • creation of a mobile exhibition dedicated to literary authors writing in dialects,
  • implementation of language workshops in the Prekmurje and Porabje dialects,
  • organisation of children’s camps and enrichment of the offer of the Ferenc Móra City Library and Museum,
  • development of the cross-border GUČIMO tourist trail, marked with QR codes and audio guides, connecting Porabje and Goričko.

The main objective of the project is to establish new and upgrade existing cultural-tourism products based on the unique dialect speech and literary tradition of both regions, thereby increasing the visibility of the area, enhancing tourism attractiveness, and encouraging the involvement of young people and the wider public in preserving cultural heritage.

The kick-off meeting marked an important first step in launching the project implementation, and the partners agreed on further activities, cooperation, and regular communication in the coming months.
