The first major professional outcome of the RE-ACTION project will be a joint, cross-border Rural Tourism Vision, providing long-term direction for tourism stakeholders in the Slovenian–Hungarian border region. This vision builds on the opportunities of slow, active, and digital detox tourism, aiming for sustainable development based on cooperation.

The foundation of this work was laid on 26 February 2026 in Szombathely, during a professional workshop that marked the first important step in the vision-building process.

The workshop was not only about inspiration but also about concrete professional preparation. During the meeting, the in-depth interview questionnaires were presented and finalized, which will be used in the coming months to map the opinions of tourism entrepreneurs, decision-makers and experts in the region.. These interviews will form the professional basis of the vision.

In addition, the planned structure and thematic framework of the focus group discussions were introduced. Slovenian and Hungarian participants jointly reflected on the current challenges and opportunities of tourism in the border region and explored possible development directions for the coming years.

International cooperation played a key role throughout the workshop. With Slovenian–Hungarian simultaneous interpretation, active dialogue, and joint planning, the process toward a coordinated and practical vision officially began.

The preparatory work completed so far ensures that the Rural Tourism Vision will be a document rooted in the realities of the region — not a theoretical paper, but a practical compass supporting local businesses in becoming more competitive and sustainable.

This was the first step. In the coming months, through interviews, focus groups, and further professional consultations, our shared future will continue to take shape.
