The small-scale project SMARAGDITE adopts an integrated and innovative approach aimed at strengthening cross-border networking, supporting joint training and development objectives, and sustainably contributing to the region’s competitiveness. Within the framework of the project, two major events will take place in 2025. The first, the “Festival of Professions” international event, was held on 28th May 2025 in Keszthely (Hungary) at Hotel Helikon, organised by the Zala County Chamber of Commerce and Industry, as one of the project partners. This event’s objective was to support career orientation for young people in the Slovenian–Hungarian border region and to promote professions related to the tourism and beauty sectors.
The event was built around three main pillars: first was a Hungarian–Slovenian professional conference on health tourism, the second was an interactive career guidance programme in the fields of tourism- hospitality, and beauty, and the third was a professional exhibition showcasing hotels and service providers from the region. During the conference titled as “Health Tourism Without Borders”, participants gained a comprehensive overview of the current state and development opportunities of tourism—particularly health tourism—on both sides of the border. Special emphasis was also placed on the importance of a healthy lifestyle and prevention. The programme’s other key component involved interactive activities designed to actively engage young participants. Students were introduced to professions such as chef, pastry chef, cocktail maker, and beautician, and were able to try these professions out at various practical stations. They had the opportunity to prepare hamburgers, decorate muffins, mix non-alcoholic cocktails, or create make-up designs with professional guidance. At the professional exhibition, participating businesses presented job opportunities within the sector and offered direct dialogue with students.
The event, attended by nearly 300 participants, also featured cultural and entertainment elements. The Asbóth Regatta Band provided musical accompaniment and a lively atmosphere, while the selfie station and prize games (chef quiz, logic challenges, and a wheel of fortune) encouraged active involvement from the young audience.
The successful implementation of the event marks a significant step towards the objectives of the SMARAGDITE project, which include enhancing young people’s skills, raising the prestige of vocational professions, and deepening cross-border cooperation in vocational training and economic development.
The project’s next professional event will take place on 15th October 2025 in Lendava, Slovenia, organised by the Slovenian lead partner, the Pomurska Gospodarska Zbornica. The event will focus on the construction and metal processing sectors.
