This year, as part of the KeepItDark project, parter of the project Goričko Nature Park Public Institute expanded the open days of the exhibition PreŽiveti z netopirji (Living with Bats), located in the former school building in Kančevci. In addition to the traditional open days held on the first Saturday of each month, visitors were able to explore the exhibition every Saturday throughout July and August.
We are very pleased with the attendance. From May to early September 2026, we welcomed a total of 265 visitors across 12 open days. The traditional open days attracted 104 visitors, while the seven additional Saturday openings welcomed 161 visitors, accounting for 61% of the total attendance.
The highest attendance on an additional open day was recorded on 8 August, when 48 people visited the exhibition, followed by 25 July, with 34 visitors.
The results show that the extended opening schedule was well received. The additional open days provided more opportunities for visitors to discover the fascinating world of bats, learn about their way of life and understand the importance of their conservation.
The exhibition also attracted media attention. Journalist Vesna Levičnik visited us and prepared an in-depth feature for the Slovenian newspaper Nedeljski dnevnik about the exhibition and its open days. Her article introduced readers to the fascinating lives of bats in the former school building in Kančevci and highlighted the importance of preserving their roosting sites.
You can read the full article (in Slovenian) here: Šola, kjer ponoči oživijo netopirji.
We would like to thank all visitors for their interest and participation. We are delighted that the exhibition continues to contribute to a better understanding of these fascinating nocturnal animals and raise awareness of the importance of their conservation.
