The study visit organised to the Thermen & Vulkanland region in March 2026 as part of the Kul-Well project aimed to provide insights into regional development systems and destination management practices. During the programme, participants had the opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of the various sectors of local tourism, including gastronomy, wellness and accommodation services and cultural programmes.

As part of the professional programme, the hosts presented the region’s long-term development strategy, which aims to make the area one of the most liveable regions in Europe by 2040. In addition, participants were introduced to several examples of sustainable development initiatives, such as the “Wheat from Vulkanland” and the “Innovation Award” programmes, both of which are designed to strengthen the local economy and foster innovation. The programme also included an introduction to the “Vulkanland 66” thematic cycling route, which combines local experiences with craftsmanship.

During the visit, the group toured several local producers, wineries, as well as the renowned Vulcano Schinkenmanufaktur and the Berghofermühle mill, where service providers presented their activities, products, and the traditional methods used in their production.

During the study visit, the project partners concluded that long-term strategic planning, stronger cooperation among stakeholders, as well as digital presence and online marketing management are key factors in the successful operation of tourism service providers.
