On Saturday, 11 April 2026, a clean-up action was carried out in Kobilje along the Kobilje stream as part of the AQUNATURE project. The activity was aimed at improving the condition of the aquatic environment and strengthening awareness of the importance of protecting watercourses and wetlands, which play a key role in maintaining biodiversity and water quality.

Approximately 70 volunteers of different age groups participated in the action. A significant contribution was ensured through the involvement of Osnovna šola Kobilje, whose pupils and teachers actively took part in the activity. Participation of local residents and representatives of JZ Krajinski park Goričko was also observed, indicating a high level of awareness regarding the importance of nature conservation within the local community.

The event was opened with introductory speeches by the co-organisers: Društvo mladih Kobilje, Občina Kobilje, Osnovna šola Kobilje and JZ Krajinski park Goričko. Participants were introduced to the importance of watercourses and wetlands for maintaining natural balance. The impact of human activities on aquatic ecosystems and the importance of responsible waste management were also highlighted.

Following the introduction, participants were provided with safety instructions and divided into groups, after which field activities were carried out. Special attention was given to younger participants, for whom a short educational programme was conducted. In an accessible way, they were introduced to aquatic ecosystems and encouraged to actively contribute to environmental protection.

During the action, a considerable amount of various types of waste was collected. It was observed that no large bulky waste was present in the area; however, the presence of hazardous waste, including asbestos, was identified, representing a risk to both the environment and human health. Additionally, two larger illegal dumping sites were identified, and their locations were reported to the competent authorities for further action.

The activity concluded in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere, which contributed to strengthening the sense of community and shared responsibility for the environment.

Through the implementation of such activities, the AQUNATURE project contributes to improving the condition of aquatic ecosystems and enhancing environmental awareness, representing an important step towards sustainable natural resource management.
