Hévíz and Murska Sobota brought people, experiences and stories together across the border on 19 September 2026 as part of the successful Interreg Cooperation Day 2026, jointly organised by the Interreg Programme Slovenia–Hungary and the CROSSDEST project

Under the motto “One Day, Two Countries, Joint Adventures”, around 180 participants from Slovenia and Hungary came together to discover the natural, cultural and culinary treasures of the cross-border region. The event was particularly special as it marked the 15th anniversary of Interreg Cooperation Day.

From nature and active adventures …

The day began on the Hungarian side, where participants could choose from three exciting experiences. A cycling tour through Hévíz and its picturesque surroundings offered an active way to explore the landscape, while a geobotanical tour revealed the unique features of the ecosystem surrounding Lake Hévíz. Meanwhile, the family eco-program at the House of Nature (Természet Háza) in Gyenesdiás invited participants to discover nature in a fun and engaging way.

Each program offered a different perspective on the destination, but they all had one thing in common – nature, activity, shared experiences and new cross-border connections.

… to culture and local stories

After a joint lunch in Hévíz, the participants continued their journey to Murska Sobota, where the day continued with cultural exploration of the town and the wider region. One group joined a guided walking tour of Murska Sobota, while the other visited the Pomurje Museum Murska Sobota, discovering the rich history of the Pomurje region through its museum collections.

A border that connects

Interreg Cooperation Day 2026 showed that a border can be much more than a line on a map. It can be a place of encounters, discovery and new opportunities.

From active experiences in Hévíz to cultural discoveries in Murska Sobota, participants experienced how cross-border cooperation can connect people and destinations while creating experiences that make us want to return.

The event was therefore a perfect tribute to the 15th anniversary of Interreg Cooperation Day – a day that has demonstrated for 15 years how cooperation can create more: more experiences, more connections and more reasons to explore both sides of the border.

One day. Two countries. Countless shared stories. And many more reasons for the next adventure.
