On 22nd March 2018 in Lendvadedes, Hungary the laying of the foundation stone of the cycling connection between Lendvadedes-Dedeskecskés and Dolga Vas took place. This activity is one of the main activates carried out in the project IronCurtainCycling co-financed in the frame of the Cooperation Programme Interreg V-A Slovenia-Hungary for the programme period 2014-2020.

At the laying of the foundation stone of the respective cycling connection Mr. László Vigh, parliament delegate of Zala County (election district No. 1.), Mr. Levente Magyar, deputy minister and state secretary of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary, Mag. Klemen Potisek, state secretary of the Ministry of Infrastructure of the Republic of Slovenia, Dr. Attila Pál president of the county council of Zala County and Mr. Kornél Kendrik deputy CEO of NIF Ltd. were present.

The territory of the Slovene-Hungarian border region with its small settlements and rich forest-cover, furthermore the short distance between villages and low traffic public road network offers a good possibility for cycling. In the previous years several developments aimed to enrich the offer of cycling tourism however a coherent and marked cycling path network which covers the whole border region has not yet been established. The EuroVelo 13 Iron Curtain international cycling route crosses the border area, so connecting of smaller elements with establishment of new elements contributes to this effort. The road sections to be built in the frame of the IronCurtainCycling project contribute to the extension of the Hungarian road network for biking and to development of the cross-border transport.

To implement this contribution the construction of a road section with the length of 2 km between Lendvadedes-Dedeskecskés and Dolga Vas is necessary. The established cycling connection will have silent road surface with low roll-resistance. Namely during the planning phase the preservation of biodiversity and natural values was strongly taken into account.
